Kathleen and Paul are owners and live on site. So you'll get quick response to your needs and access to your washer/dryer in the basement.

Your apartment is only 100 feet from Grand Avenue and only 100 more to beautiful Lake Merritt where the winter birds are arriving. And runners abound.

Your Saturday Farmer's Market is closeby under/around I-580. Trader Joe's is just a few more feet. Whole Foods Market is walkable from your apartment. Sprouts Farmers Market is on Broadway and Safeway is closeby on Grand Ave.

Then there's the classic Grand Lake Theater. You'll find many good restaurants on Grand and Lakeshore. Walking Grand Ave and Lakeshore at night always reminds me of the Left Bank of Paris.

This area truly is a gem and Kathleen and I are glad and happy to live here. You will be too.

Thanksgiving and a Little Bit More…11/27/14

The house remodeling came to fruition and all was complete in time for T-Day! The 3rd floor was up-to-date with the “guest bedroom” – shown here as a “storage” area:

Then transformed into a welcoming and warm guest room:

Snow's been visiting since Nov 10. Some days the snow would be just a few inches, other days, just a light blanket of fresh, white snow. The temps have been much different from those in our usual winter home – El Centro boasts temperatures in the high 70s, while Minneapolis is in the teens, more than once in single digits, and rarely in the 40s! The back yard.

One afternoon, when we were at the “Swants” gathering, the sunset was worth capturing, even through screened windows!
The front yard.

The two of us have enjoyed being here with Michelle and family, and are always happy to contribute our services where needed. Here PaPa polishes silver. (He did a good job, too!)

The two of us met Zane at school last week and were treated to “Grandparents Day.” These young students serenaded us with some rousing music!

We enjoyed visiting Zane’s Jr High area. What a great place to learn and grow!

Thanksgiving Holidays brought Slade’s brother (O’Donnell {O.D.}), his wife (Liz) and son (Liam.) In a separate automobile, their daughter (married over a year) and her handsome husband joined the family. Not long after their arrival, came Wes and his girlfriend, Sybil.

The table was set for the meal – 15 persons in attendance, and how festive it looked!

The family all pitches in to create a fabulous meal. Liz is making some appetizers Paul suggested to Michelle , and Slade checks on her progress.

Michelle prepares the dressing as Alex chops onions. Sebby checks.

The brothers, “O.D.” and Slade work on the meal. O.D. prepares the many potatoes that will be needed to make enough mashed potatoes for all the participants, while Slade mixes the sauce for the Brussels sprouts.

Graham is often a presence in the kitchen. He works on his contribution to the cooking.

The food is ready, and the aroma from the kitchen reaches into the dining area, calling Zane to the table to check out the fare!

A toast was made – for thanksgiving, and to recognize Liz's recent birthday.

Toward the end of the meal Sybil and Wes pose for the camera.

The following day some of the clan went out for an auto tour of the city. They came back with several boxes of donuts! Michelle, Liz, Alex and Daniel made sure the pastry tasted okay!

Sybil looks bored? – Fearful? - Amazed? As she watches Michelle and Liz combine the various ingredients for the eggnog…..

The evening after Turkey Day Michelle and Liz began making their famous (or infamous) Eggnog.

What a great celebration! One sometimes reads of families gathering for Christmas or Thanksgiving and the scene is not always a happy one; that sure was not the case here. We feel SO lucky to be a part of this loving, inclusive clan and hope that the joy we felt in the family, will be what all our readers, family and friends experience. Surely we miss our “family” in El Centro – but what a special blessing and joy to be here in Minneapolis, among a loving family!

Tomorrow (November 28) will be our eldest sons's birthday. How does a proud mom and dad describe the many good qualities of their son? Sometimes I wonder if Paul thinks his dad and I are "putting him on" - but he really is a treasure. There is nothing Paul won't do for anyone. He really cares about people, and sometmes neglects his own needs to answer pleas from family and friends (or even strangers.) As a young boy we all remember how many times Paul would interrupt his play to run into the house and yell out, "I love you, mom!" and out he'd rush to continue his play. Well dear birthday boy, I love you, too! Forever and ever! Happy Birthday, dear son from your dad and mom!

8/24 - WHEN TWO WIN/LOSE people get together--that is, when two determined, stubborn, ego-invested individuals interact--the result will be Lose/Lose. Both will lose. Both will become vindictive and want to "get back" or "get even," blind to the fact that murder is suicide, that revenge is a two-edged sword. - from 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey
