Kathleen and Paul are owners and live on site. So you'll get quick response to your needs and access to your washer/dryer in the basement.

Your apartment is only 100 feet from Grand Avenue and only 100 more to beautiful Lake Merritt where the winter birds are arriving. And runners abound.

Your Saturday Farmer's Market is closeby under/around I-580. Trader Joe's is just a few more feet. Whole Foods Market is walkable from your apartment. Sprouts Farmers Market is on Broadway and Safeway is closeby on Grand Ave.

Then there's the classic Grand Lake Theater. You'll find many good restaurants on Grand and Lakeshore. Walking Grand Ave and Lakeshore at night always reminds me of the Left Bank of Paris.

This area truly is a gem and Kathleen and I are glad and happy to live here. You will be too.

June 5 - Happy Birthday, Paul Sr!

Today the kids are taking Paul (and me) out for Paul's birthday dinner. But before time for dinner, the two of us took the new Apple Air down to the local Apple store - not far from their home.

This is a fairly new store, and the foot traffic here is so much less than most Apple stores we have visited. We were "seen" by the "Genius"... to me the Apple representative at the Genius bar was named "Patrick" - what a neat fellow!

He listened to Kathleen's tale of woe .... many pictures on the Apple which is "dead." Why is it dead? Well, after she spilled a glass of water all over the keyboard, did her best to dry it up, and even put it in a bag of dry, white rice - the Apple computer refused to work. Hit the number 5, and the number "5" runs across the screen with hundreds of "5s" ..... Patrick agreed, too much money to "fix" the machine (probably needs a new hard drive, etc.) so what could he do for Kathleen?

The hope was to see if the Apple folks could transfer all the pictures from the "dead" Apple onto the "new" Apple (recently purchased by Paul.) And guess what? Patrick did just that! Lots of pictures are now on the new machine and all Kathleen has to do is to get them in order. And it did not cost us a penny! What a big help Patrick was! Anyone in the Minneapolis area who needs to visit an Apple store - this is the place! It's the one UpTown

So the day was a winner for us!

That afternoon Cody, Seb and Zane took us to the Japanese restaurant for Paul's birthday.

As we drove up to the restaurant we were met by a gathering of motorcyclists .... don't know why so many were gathered there, perhaps a big sale or something - they were all over the place, and we hope they had a good time!

We figured the restaurant would be mobbed by cyclists, but no, it was busy, but we were served right away.

And what a fine feast it was, too! Zane tried a sort of soup (made a meal, it was so much) and he loved it! We all had a delicious repast and marvelous company. We all missed Graham (who had to work) and Janina (who had to baby sit), but we really had a great time!

Mainly, we enjoyed just being with the boys - they've grown so much since we were them in Minneapolis two years ago, and their maturity is just something at which we marvel!

10/19 - IT IS SO much easier to blame other people, conditioning, or conditions for our own stagnant situation.
