Kathleen and Paul are owners and live on site. So you'll get quick response to your needs and access to your washer/dryer in the basement.

Your apartment is only 100 feet from Grand Avenue and only 100 more to beautiful Lake Merritt where the winter birds are arriving. And runners abound.

Your Saturday Farmer's Market is closeby under/around I-580. Trader Joe's is just a few more feet. Whole Foods Market is walkable from your apartment. Sprouts Farmers Market is on Broadway and Safeway is closeby on Grand Ave.

Then there's the classic Grand Lake Theater. You'll find many good restaurants on Grand and Lakeshore. Walking Grand Ave and Lakeshore at night always reminds me of the Left Bank of Paris.

This area truly is a gem and Kathleen and I are glad and happy to live here. You will be too.

Tuesday, May 27th - Up and away at the break of day! Well, almost that ... Kathleen made a final visit to the store close by, Paul readied the Honda to the motor home, did a final "dump" and we were off toward Ripon to fill up the motor home's engine with diesel... THEN we were really "on our way" to Minnesota and points east.

The drive north on 99 was not bad, and soon we were heading east on route 88. We knew that when we reached Jackson, we would need to be very careful to make a left turn off 49/88 and so on east. In the past we have mistakenly taken route 49 south - a big mistake, as "turnarounds" with motor home and Honda are not easy nor do we often find an adequate place in which to negotiate a "U turn". So it was to both of our disappointments that we missed the turn on to 88. (Truth be told, the sign designating the left turn off 49 was right at the corner - no advance notice.) So down route 49 we went, looking for a place to turn around. Paul found a little shopping center that he felt would work. Unfortunately, negotiating a turn in that parking lot was not successful - we got up close and personal to a red car -- too close for comfort - so we had to unhook the Honda from the motor home. Because the vehicles were in a "curve" trying to make a turn, the disconnect was difficult. A nice fellow stopped by and offered assistance, and he did provide some brawn to the effort. After some pounding and pulling on the connection, we were "un hooked" and Paul pulled the motor home in a position where Kathleen was able to drive the Honda straight behind it, the two were connected, and we made our way to the proper turn onto route 88! Whoopee! We were finally, and actually on our way!

We both enjoy the drive over Carson Pass. 7588 SNOW in the mountains! 7594

At the higher elevations we noticed some trees were just coming into leaves - a light green. The road is in pretty good shape and the traffic was light. We saw several bikers on the pass - if they biked the entire Cason Pass (and it looked as though more than one cyclist did - Wow!) 7951 We ascended as high as 7,000+ feet. Beautiful scenery! 7597

Down into the valley we drove and were soon in Nevada. 7602 We had decided to boon-dock at a truck stop in Carson City until we realized we had erred in thinking the city had a Love's or Pilot truck stop. A quick check into our old Woodall's camping book showed a Casino right in Carson City that allowed RVs. Directions seemed clear but we managed to get a bit lost looking for the place and though we followed the "simple directions" there was no such Casino in sight.

We drove on, hoping to find some RV park along the way. We discovered one such park in a town 46 miles east of Sparks and headed for Fernley where indeed, we did find a lovely park. We just made it a few minutes before 5 and the good fellow assigned us a nice spot for the night. We are just off 80 and were surprised at how quiet it is. A perfect spot for the night.

We had a few "bumps" in our plans for today, but are no worse for wear, and will enjoy this lovely spot to recoup and refresh. And tomorrow we continue our adventure with positive feelings of being so lucky to take this adventure! 7607
