Minneapolis and Beyond

With all the activities of being at the Lake and then spending time in Minneapolis, our postings have been nil. So I'll start today and try to do a little catch-up. 7/21/10 - Cody left for his 2-week course, but we were able to pick him up on Wednesday and take him out for dinner. He doesn't get many chances to go to a Thai restaurant (due to allergies of others in the family) so we elected to visit a nice Thai restaurant. Paul and Cody pose outside the restaurant.

The Tour de France always seems to take place when we visit the Winchesters. The boys know this is like a "religion" to us, and each morning we could be found in front of the TV. The smaller boys seemed to accept this strangeness from us, and we realized the effect of our daily watching of the Tour when one morning Zane, who came down from his bedroom first, asked us why we weren't watching the Tour. We explained that it was a "rest day" for the tour participants. Zane and Seby became pretty avid watchers. They knew about Alberto and Andy and Lance, and frequently had questions about the riders. Both boys enjoyed watching the "Polka Dot" rider as well as the Green Jersey rider. We were impressed at the patience of our guests in allowing us to watch the entire Tour! Slade even taped some segments for us! It was truly one of the best Tours we've witnessed in years, so we appreciated the generosity of our hosts!

7/23 Chris, Chet and the girls arrived at the Lake House after a visit with Chet's relatives who live around Milwaukee. We all joined them at the Lake House. Slade is an excellent cook, as evidenced by this huge piece of beef that he's just turned into an epicurean delight.
Both Graham and Michelle know what a treat this will be. Michelle has also turned into a gourmet cook herself.

After a delicious dinner we played cards - "hearts" and enjoyed the participation of most family members. Nearing the end of the last game we were entertained by the young folks. The boys have been in more than one production at school, and the Catie's been in several at her school. I believe that the boys came up with the theme for tonight's production and Catie was the director. Here they accept the ovations from the audience - Zane, Sebastian, Becky and Catie.

"I HAVE FOUND that the key to the ninety-nine is the one--particularly the one that is testing the patience and the good humor of the many. It is the love and the discipline of the one student, the one child, that communicates love for the others. It's how you treat the one that reveals how you regard the ninety-nine, because everyone is ultimately a one." (9/6)
