US Highway 2 Click to add your comment Monday morning and a day of travel through some of the most beautiful scenes we've ever seen! Our friend John suggested that rather than I-94/I-90 (both excellent interstates) we travel US-2 to Channing, Michigan. It's not an interstate and it has many scenic stretches. Scenic is our cup of tea. John reassured us he'd traversed US-2 several times in his motor home. That's all we needed! So we topped off propane and bade a warm goodbye and many thanks to our magnanimous host. Lake Pleasant is such a lovely RV park that we had to post some of its sights like this water wheel (unlike El Centro, there's no lack of water here....) ![]() A lovely mural ![]() Every site has flowers ![]() But we had to finally leave and head for today's adventures. It's not hard to find US-2 from Lake Pleasant. Kathleen was concerned it would be a busy. Fortunately traffic dropped off as we approached the first pass. ![]() We were amazed at the river along the road - really white rapids. ![]() Farther along we saw rafters on a more placid part of the river! Stevens Pass is not a high one. We cross three 4,000 foot passes going to San Diego from El Centro. But this pass has beautiful green fir trees all the way. We passed through the town of Leavenworth. When the city's economy struggled financially the Leavenworth Improvement For Everyone Committee formed to transform the city into a mock Bavarian village to revitalize. ![]() To make it more inviting, the Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum opened in 1995. It has more than 5,000 nutcrackers dating from prehistoric to modern. Outside of Munich Germany, Leavenworth's annual Oktoberfest is one of the most attended in the world. We've often visited a town in southern California (Solvang) that is much like Leavenworth. The biggest problem in visiting a place like this is the delicious food that sore tempts those of us who want to cut down - especially pastries and sweets! We stopped at the Nason Creek Safety Rest Area. Most of the rest stops in Washington have gracious volunteers offering free coffee and cookies. They make visitors to this beautiful state feel so welcome! These lovely ladies agreed to pose for a picture. You can see from their faces how well they represent the friendly people of the state. ![]() We made good time today, had little traffic and reserved a site in Spokane's beautiful Alderwood RV Resort. We had a dickens of a time finding it. Kathleen asked a young woman at a gas station where it was. “It’s right behind us,” she replied. It really was time to call it a day! Love and Peace, Kathleen and Paul | |

| "I HAVE FOUND that the key to the ninety-nine is the one--particularly the one that is testing the patience and the good humor of the many. It is the love and the discipline of the one student, the one child, that communicates love for the others. It's how you treat the one that reveals how you regard the ninety-nine, because everyone is ultimately a one." (9/6) |
