Goodbye to Paul Jr., Miriam, Paul David and Juliana.....

Today we said "goodbye" to Miriam, Paul Jr., Juliana and Paul David. They arrived last Friday night and left around noon today.

How quickly the four days went by.

We all went to San Diego last Sunday where we spent much of the day enjoying all the displays and sights and sounds of the famous San Diego Zoo.

We first took the "Guided Bus Tour" (a 35-minute tour on a double-decked bus covering about 75 percent of the zoo). Our driver was loud enough for Kathleen to hear, knowledgeable, interesting and made the decision to take the bus first, a winner! We were able to view many of the displays from our vantages on the bus.

Cavendish's Dik Dik evolved naturally to stand and reach food others could not

We envied the panda sleeping in the tree!

The bus did not go everywhere, so we "hoofed" it to many displays
San Diego Zoo The Elephant Odyssey (a 2.4 acre area for the 7 elephants presently housed at the zoo) was busy, lots of people, but well worth our trek up to it.

We all enjoyed watching this elephant knocking the "log" and knocking food out!

Miriam, Juliana and Kathleen had a good time.

We did take a ride on the Skyfari Aerial Tram. It's an airborne shortcut over the treetops. We enjoyed spectacular views of the Zoo from on high. Kathleen was scared but her fellow tram travelers (Paul Sr and Paul David) were good companions.

Paul Jr is a wonderful photographer, and he shot over 300 photos to document our adventure!

The apes (as is often the case) caught the eye of most of us ... This mother and her baby caught our attention

This monkey seems to fear nothing...

Nor does Paul Sr fear THIS tiger!

We stopped for a bite to eat and the food tasted mighty good! (Perhaps Juliana's favorite was the cotton candy!)

We enjoyed the escalator ride up to the Owens Rain Forest Aviary where we saw many beautiful birds, this being only one of them....

But we had to eventually leave the park with our memories of a great place to visit, to learn and to appreciate.

After our visit to the zoo we headed back to El Centro, but stopped at the Viejas Indian Outlet and Casino.

The ice rink there had lots of skaters and boasts of being the largest outdoor ice rink in southern California.

Juliana was most interested in finding some good deals on clothes, but came away pretty empty handed. Lots of sales, but nothing that interested her. The "boys" were pretty good as they stood or sat outside while we scoured the various outlets. We had planned on enjoying the well published Steak Dinner at the restaurant, but when we saw the line, we decided to return to El Centro and find a restaurant not so crowded. We did find one - Grasso's Italian Restaurant. Paul Jr was intrigued at one item on the menu - pizza titled "Dumb and Fearless". Jalapino peppers can be added at no extra expense " The look on your face is worth it" ... Paul's was just the "regular" Dumb and Fearless....

The following day we drove over to Imperial (very close to El Centro) where we toured the Pioneer Desert Museum.

Paul and Kathleen had visited this most interesting museum in December, and wanted to share it with the kids. Paul Jr took over 300 pictures inside and outside the museum, and we hope they all enjoyed the tour as much as we did.

Only a couple of pictures from that trip. It must be visited to be appreciated. One display that intrigued us was a statue of a cow with this plaque

Outside the museum is this interesting replica of the mobile "houses" Japanese workers lived in at the various farms

We really have fallen in love with this museum, and can't describe the museum and the displays adequately, so here's a link to seeing a tiny fraction of this interesting place.

In addition to our wanderings, we all took in the 3D version of the movie Avatar at the local mall. Paul David had seen it before in 2D and enjoyed it in 3D, but said he enjoyed the 2D version more. Paul Jr wants to see it in I-MAC. We all agreed that it was a good movie.

"NO DEAL BASICALLY means that if we can't find a solution that wold benefit us both, we agree to disagree agreeably--No Deal. No expectations have been created, no performance contracts established. I don't hire you or we don't take on a particular assignment together because it's obvious that our values or our goals are going in opposite directions. It is so much better to realize this up front instead of downstream when expectations have been created and both parties have been disillusioned.
When you have No Deal as an option in your mind, you feel liberated because you have no need to manipulate people, to push your own agenda, to drive for what you want. You can be open. You can really try to understand the deeper issues underlying the positions."
